File 6: Nature Spirits (Arduinna's Lineage) — "The Forgotten Guardians"
Social Architecture
Nature spirit society is territorially organized, with entities bound to specific geographic features: forests, rivers, mountains, particular species. The social structure is local rather than global, with minimal communication between entities in different regions. Arduinna's direct coordination, when she provides it, represents the only meaningful cross-regional connection.
The dominant factional divide is between Pure Guardians, who have retreated to remaining wilderness areas to preserve their power in unspoiled environments, and Vengeful Adapters, who have developed corrupted and aggressive forms in response to environmental destruction and are actively working against human industrial activity.
The Vengeful Adapter faction has grown significantly as habitat destruction has accelerated. Arduinna's direct involvement in coordinating attacks against industrial and development activity has increased.
Historical Trajectory
53 BC-1000 AD (Ancient Territories): Nature spirits were openly integrated into the human societies that occupied their territories, worshipped through offerings and maintained through active ritual practice. The relationship was transactional and functional.
1000-1700 AD (Medieval Retreat): Christian expansion systematically destroyed sacred sites and suppressed practices that maintained the human-nature spirit relationship. Nature spirits transitioned from visible community participants to concealed entities, losing power as their human relationship networks collapsed.
1700-1950 (Industrial Devastation): The Industrial Revolution represented an existential threat. The "Season of Storms" (1832-1839), in which Arduinna directly led attacks against early industrial centers, was the most visible coordinated action in the society's history and required OVM active response.
1950-Present (Modern Resurgence): Strategic infiltration of environmental movements has given nature spirit entities human proxies working unknowingly toward their territorial interests. The development of hybrid urban nature spirits in parks and green spaces represents an adaptation to permanent urbanization.
Current OVM Assessment
Primary Concern: Accelerating climate change and habitat destruction are producing increasingly desperate and aggressive responses. The line between legitimate environmental concern (which provides useful cover for supernatural activity) and Veil-threatening aggressive manifestation is becoming harder to maintain.
OVM Relationship: Occasional tactical alignment on environmental protection where OVM interests and nature spirit interests coincide. No stable diplomatic relationship. Arduinna does not engage directly with OVM overtures.
Threat Level: Moderate and rising. Environmental disaster events attributed to supernatural activity require increasing resources to manage.
