Critical Operational Preamble
A Progenitor is one of seven humans who underwent permanent transformation at a moment of extreme historical duress, acquiring true immortality and powers of a scale that exceed OVM neutralization capacity. The mechanism of these transformations is not established. What is documented is their effect: each created a distinct supernatural lineage that persists to the present day, and none has ever been terminated by OVM action. Standing doctrine is observation, relationship cultivation, and deterrence through mutual interest.
The supernatural beings a Progenitor creates, through turning, curse, bloodline, or any other mechanism, do not inherit the full extent of their creator's power. The characteristics of the lineage echo the Progenitor's psychology and cultural context at the moment of transformation, but no created being operates at Progenitor level. This distinction is operationally significant: field agents must not attribute Progenitor-level capabilities to any entity below that classification.
Seven Progenitor transformations are documented. Each created a distinct supernatural lineage. Each remains active.

Individual dossiers for each Progenitor are maintained as separate active intelligence files. Each dossier contains the full historical background, operating profile, and lineage mechanics for that entity. See the Progenitors section of the Codex to access individual files.
Observed Patterns in the Transformations
A consistent pattern is identifiable across all seven Progenitor transformations. Each occurred at a moment of extreme personal duress, and in most cases at a moment of significant historical or social upheaval. The transformations were not gradual. In each case, a threshold was crossed and the individual emerged permanently changed.
The psychological state of the Progenitor at the moment of transformation appears to have directly shaped the characteristics of their lineage. The drive that defines the vampire lineage reflects what Vlad was at the moment of transformation. The nature of the restless spirit lineage reflects Nero's psychological state at his death. Whether this psychological imprinting was the mechanism of transformation or simply a consequence of it is not resolved.
Cultural context shaped the specific forms of each lineage. The same supernatural category manifests differently across different cultural traditions because the Progenitor's transformation occurred within a specific belief environment, and that environment shaped the first generation's manifestation. This explains regional variation within the same supernatural type: Strigoi and Upyr are both vampire lineage entities, but their specific characteristics reflect the distinct cultural belief contexts in which they first emerged.
